Plaid is a typeface inspired by the rich history of tartan, also known as plaid. Plaid has an extensive history, with the first tartan to have been worn in 3 Century A.D. These complex patterns are made from weaving alternating threads to create boxes of various colors. Tartan was first made for clothing, blankets, and generally textiles. But tartan was also used to identify different Scottish clans, and there are many. This book gives an overview of the Plaid typeface in correspondance to the various plaid patterns it was inspired by.
